Saturday

Saturday was a busy day for us. Our town was having their annual Summer Solstice celebration, which we had never been to before. We planned to go last year, but it was pretty much rained out. Luis went down in the morning to run in their 5K race, he placed 4th in his age group, and 24th overall. He was not thrilled, but I think he did awesome. The boys and I planned to walk down in time to see the finish, but unfortunately we were too late. We met up with Luis and had some snacks while we waited to hear the results of the race. While we were waiting, Taye found a slug in the wagon, which provided minutes of entertainment.

The boys wandered around the playground for a while, but there was so much else going on that they didn't play there much. After the results were announced, we walked across to the flea market. As I have mentioned, we are fans of flea markets (in fact thats where we spent Sunday morning). Then we took a walk around the track to see what else there was. Taye played ball retriever at the dunk tank for a while, bringing the balls back to those who threw them. I couldn't tell if the girl volunteering for that job appreciated the break, or felt her position was threatened. :o) Either way, we moved on after a few minutes. Mostly there were tents of vendors selling all kinds of things, most of which we were not interested in. (Why pay full price when you can get it at the flea market for pennies?)

We did go under one tent with a sales genius. He saw Taye eyeing a basket, and casually mentioned that it was filled with chocolate popsicles. He just had to say the 'c' word. So, we got some chocolate popsicles.

When we got back around the track we saw Kathy, George, and Keyeanna watching the 'animal guy' and sat down with them.

Taye is not so into sitting, so we didn't stay there long, though we did stay long enough to see (and touch) the giant snake.

After all that excitement, we decided it was time to go home for lunch. Sadly we later realized that our one and only Buzz Lightyear had been lost at the park. Minus one for the day.

We also had to go home to get ready for my cousin's graduation party that afternoon. We had lunch and then set out for round two of the day.

Darius had fun playing with the various fake animals he found around the yard -

and stealing other people's food.

Taye, on the other hand, found a cowboy hat. You see, my cousin Jeff loves cowboys, he owns several hats which he is never without, and even has bull horns on the front of his car. We even told Taye he was going to meet a 'real' cowboy. So, of course, for the first time in years, Jeff showed up without a hat. But Taye really didn't mind, as long as he had one to play with. So that is what Taye did at the party.

Of course, no party would be complete without Daddy wrestling. This time the boys had extra help from Gerry.

My cousin Jay even jumped in at one point to help.

Not that the little ones needed it, they were handling him pretty well themselves!

When it was time to go, Uncle John told Taye that he could keep the hat - plus about a million for the day. :o) He was a very happy camper.
