Snakes

While Tia, Matt, and the ladies were here the other day, we all took a trip to the fabric store. I let the boys each pick out a square of quilter's fabric, and told them we would make something with it later. I had no idea what to make, but knew we would come up with something.

The next night, I was reading a new blog I've come across, and found this snake tutorial. I thought it was the perfect project for the fabric, the boys agreed. While Mya napped yesterday, the boys helped me pin the fabric, cut it out, guide it through the machine, and finally fill it with stuffing and beads (whatever the technical terms for those things are). They were so excited, and the snakes turned out great. Taye walked around the rest of the night having conversations with his snake. Darius made a 'pond' with a blanket on his bed for his snake to sleep in, because his snake sleeps in water. This morning when he showed Nana, she asked if it was a water snake, and he told her "No, Nana! It's a fabric snake!"

Blueberries

We have discovered Mya has a love of frozen blueberries. I learned the first time, leaving clothing on is just asking for trouble. These pictures don't even capture the purple baby that emerges after a blueberry snack. Its a good thing she likes baths!

Wall-E

Taye and Luis decided to make a Wall-E costume the other day. First, they drew detailed instructions, dictated by Taye and sketched by Luis. Taye wanted to make sure they included the three wheels on each side, with a 'strap' over them all:

and they needed to put a head on top that Taye could put on and take off:

The finished product was pretty cool:

Darius' story

The other day Darius made a book. He cut paper, drew on it, glued it all together. When it was done, he read the story to me.

"Yesternight there was an egg.
A squirrel came and eateded the egg.
Then me and you went to see the squirrel!"

I'm thinking this pesky lady may have provided some of the inspiration:

The next morning he read it to Daddy, and that time the squirrel ate the egg, then had a white poop. He went to see a frog, which stuck its tongue out, and then there was a caterpillar which became a butterfly. Apparently it's a series.

Yesterday Mya...

started regular crawling, instead of army crawling and used her new vantage point to pull herself up to standing. I think things are about to get interesting.

Taye tracking

Last night we all went around the block. Luis and Taye went running, the rest of us took a leisurely stroll. Taye was wearing his new cleats, and about halfway around the block, we noticed he left tracks in the sand. Darius and I tracked him all the way home. When we got to the driveway, I pointed out that there were a lot of 'Taye tracks' there, and said, "that must mean he lives here." Darius stomped hard in the sand and said, "now I live here too!"

I stand corrected.

Today we spent hours running errands. Our last stop was Walmart, and as we pulled out of the parking lot, Taye asked where we were going. I told him we were going home, and he got upset. He managed to convey (in his own Taye sign language-y way) that he wanted to go to Market Basket. I told him we just went and would go again in a few days. That was not what he wanted to hear. We went back and forth for a few minutes before I got frustrated. I said something like, "Taye, we've done all the errands we have to do, it's almost dinner time, we need to go home, and I'm not talking about it any more."

His immediate response was, "But when you say you're not talking about it, that's talking."

Anyone want a 4 year old?
